I attempted several times to contact the hotel prior to arrival to make our stay a little more systematically sound versus chaotic. My wifes birthday was the check in day and i was trying to get accommodations to make it more special as it was our first time in both the hotel and Jamaica. Our sheets weren't changed until we went to front desk to request a second time. Also, we utilized the hotels tour rep and paid for a bamboo and atv excursion for everything included. Come to find ourselves paying again after we arrived as $240 was for the transportation not the excursion but wasnt informed that and ended up paying over $660. The hotel tour rep should have been clear on what everything was for so we could have made a much better decision. We felt like deals were being made because we are tourist and not from Jamaica.

Very nice located hotel with beautiful surroundings not far away from Mae Kampong. The service and food was very good. We liked to stay there.

We checked in at about 8pm, then went to dinner heading back to the hotel at 10pm. The room was beyond disgusting. Maintenance upkeep on the room is something that is not kept up. There was no hot water in our Jacuzzi suite and we were told that the boiler was down an to give them "time" to get it back up and running. We checked out at 1am because there was still no hot water. When checking out there was no General Manager to talk to so I could get a check out receipt, I was told they could not give me a receipt stating the time i checked out because their audit was not completed yet. I was handed a handwritten paper of who to call after 8am to talk to about a refund. When i called i was told they can give me a 30% discount. When I asked why not a full refund i was told after 30 minutes of being in the room they can no longer give me a full refund. I explained that the front desk clerks told me to give it "time" but they did not care and refused the refund. To be told to give it "time" and then to be refused a refund because I did what the front desk told me to is beyond ridiculous and feels more like a scam so they can get away with not refunding money because of their own lack of upkeep, Maintenance and proper staffing of their property. For the price they charge I would not recommend this hotel.

The staff were incredibly kind and abundantly helpful throughout our stay — warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, which made a significant difference.
The food was exceptional — Michelin?star quality.
Significant, however, is the retreat’s confused identity — marketed as eco?luxury, but in reality far closer to an eco?lodge, with a few luxury touches and many rough edges. The property is over 20 years old, and this shows in both maintenance and overall finish. These issues have clearly been raised by previous guests, yet meaningful corrections do not appear to have been made, instead leaving frontline staff to manage potentially difficult conversations (especially about different beverage options). This feels less like oversight and more like a conscious failure to address known problems and to potentially deceive guests.
On a human level, this is unfair to staff, who work tirelessly to make stays special. Management appeared chaotic, with little evidence of clear systems or processes. As guests, we were confused on what options were available to us during our stay.
Overall: a serene setting with wonderful staff and exceptional dining, but ultimately overpriced for the level of polish, organisation, and transparency. Without significant correction to the business model and management approach, the current trajectory feels ill?fated — which would be a real tragedy, at the very least for the staff who work so hard and genuinely care about guests.

Hotel Tropical Garden is really the perfect apart style hotel to stay at when visiting dreamy C.R. The property is lush, gated, has a great pool, with bbq area under a roof, also with common area great for relaxing. Efficiency apartment style rooms paired throughout the property are perfect. The location is perfect because the beach -with private gate access- is 100m away while the convenience of main st is 100m the other way. Bonus that Koko restaurant is a great place to eat and watch sunsets. The side street this is all located on has street lights so no it is not some dark alley as I previously saw in some review. It is relatively quiet considering Jaco is a party every night kind of town. I highly recommend. Maybe only drawback is staff has very limited English, but translator apps solve that. Oh, they provide secure parking onsite for your car which is also a great amenity for peace of mind.
