The staff at the Fox were extremely friendly. The Room was a good size and bed comfortable however one of our rooms had very steep eaves which restricted movement without leaning over.
The food was good standard pub food, as was the breakfast, without hitting any heights, hence 4 stars, but service was excellent.
Upon arrival at The Fox we were met by Andrea who swiftly took us to our room to settle in. Throughout our whole stay she was super helpful and attentive which made us feel really welcome. Unfortunately we noticed the room we had booked was not the room we ended up with. We spoke to Andrea about this and she said that *********** tell the hotel to book the room but it doesn’t always match the description you’ve been given on the *********** website. I was quite disappointed as we were supposed to have a sleigh bed, meadow/river view and ended up with a window overlooking the roof above the kitchen. The hotel couldn’t do anything, I raised it with *********** on Monday and 3 days later I haven’t received a response. I would recommend not booking with third party companies for your stay and book direct to get the room you’d like. Despite this, the room we had was quiet at night and very comfortable although it did need some TLC - the toilet flusher was very stiff (not good if like me you have arthritis in your fingers!) and the kettle switch was broken. There are plenty of complimentary teas and coffee sachets and some lovely Borders biscuits which are replenished each morning. The food at breakfast and in the evenings was faultless- the pie was the best pie I’ve had, perfect for a rainy day. My husband really enjoyed the eggs Benedict. I think the menu could do with a few more vegetarian options but I would still highly recommend eating here even if you’re not staying in the hotel. Curious to know why diners are seated in the small bar area when there is a large restaurant room out the back that has beautiful big windows overlooking the river. It can get quite crowded in the bar area and it’s quite difficult to have a conversation over dinner with so much going on. The outside terrace is really pleasant with lovely flower pots and plenty of outside seating. There is also ample parking in the area. We had a great stay at The Fox and would definitely love to visit again and book direct with the hotel.
Lovely location by the River Windrush, not mobbed either, given the best table in the house overlooking the river, fantastic Sunday roast delivered in very good time, perfect (and deceptive!) portion sizes for main and dessert. Looking forward to the Summer and the outside pizza oven, and lazy evenings watching the water drift by!
