  • Guest:Firstly the positives! We booked a junior suite. The lady receptionist was lovely, parking was easy and our room was gorgeous. Huge bedroom with balcony overlooking the sea where we could see the tidal changes. Beautiful gardens and the bathroom was excellent with a powerful shower and good bath. Nice toiletries too. We had chairs in the room and also on the balcony. Very comfortable bed. No air conditioning but keeping the door open to the balcony kept the room cool at night. Now sadly the negatives. The restaurant had great reviews and we made a booking for 8pm. When we got there the restaurant was almost full and we had to share a table. The French ladies sharing it were very nice and friendly but I am sure they and we would have preferred a table a deux! But thanks to them for making us feel welcome. My husband had the foie gras and it was superb! The best we had had this holiday. However, sadly it was downhill from there. My Lotte starter was over cured and very salty. The Rascasse main course was awful. The rascasse (scorpion fish) tasted good with a nice skin, but was advertised as a “Filet” and was anything but! Also, and unforgivable, were the vegetables. Very hard and inedible and cold too. The cauliflower was brown and unappetising and hard. The asparagus sauce with the rascasse should have been tasty but was over watery which spoilt it. Considering the chef’s reputation I was expecting much better quality. . We were asked by a young waiter early in if the food was good. I very politely explained the issue as had lined up the bones in the plate to show. He looked embarrassed and could have spoken to the Manager but nothing was done. I should point out that I was not looking for nor asking for a refund but some acknowledgement re the quality of the food would have been appreciated. Later on, when my husband played piano and was applauded by the guests he was given some Calvados on the house by the Manager which was a nice gesture and made up a bit for earlier. So this is a difficult review to write…. As I rarely write negative reviews. I really loved the hotel and would love to stay there again but maybe not the restaurant! . A real shame as it could have been so much better.

  • Guest:The hotel itself is popular, but in a quiet little village by the sea with excellent uncrowded beaches. We'd booked half board via Brittany Ferries: no disappointments with the hotel or room at all. Our rate included breakfast (smashing selection there) and dinner - but with no choice. I have to say, the meals offered were fine but not perhaps what we might have ordered ourselves. If the weather is cool, the dining room can feel a little cramped with everyone inside: on other warmer evenings, people were also outside so the ambiance was generally nicer. Half board is of course a bit of a loose term and can either mean a bargain, or very limited options. If we'd known, we would've booked b&b here and even though it's pricey, we could've chosen a la carte.
