Guest：On first glance beautiful room, until we could smell the rubbish that was left under the sink. The rubbish was 2 days old according to the Dominos pizza box, disgusting! My daughter was very excited by the huge bath, good job I’d didn’t want to use it as the hot water ran out half way filled. Hot tub experience wasn’t pleasant in a dark yard with no working lightbulbs. No Netflix, apps or way of streaming to the TV which I have never experienced before in this kind of “luxury” self catering stay at ￡300 for the night. And to add, it wasn’t great that there was no air fryer or oven. Had to take our own for our New Year’s Eve picky tea we’d bought. I contacted the Ramside group about my complaint before leaving a review, only to be ignored so just won’t book again or recommend to others.
Guest：Truly an unbelievable place to stay. I have been incredibly lucky and stayed in a lot of hotels/air b&b’s/apartments, and The Funky Monk truly blows everything else I’ve experienced out of the water. I booked Appartement 2 (The Bashing Bishop) as a 30th birthday celebration for my boyfriend. We stayed for 3 nights - only paying for 2 due to an offer. The Funky Monk is a stones throw away from the rail station, literally a 5 minute walk, if that. From the outside, the building and frontage is stunning; the stain glass style window at the front of the building is an amazing touch. We also loved the lighting either side of the stairs - this was super helpful in the dark when negotiating the steps after a few glasses of wine…. There are a lot of steps, but Durham is a (beautiful!) hilly place so it was to be expected really. Great thought has gone into the experience of staying here, with funky LED lights and music greeting you in the entranceway and countless small, finishing touches to really elevate the experience of staying here. The super kind sized bed was super comfortable, the bathroom with waterfall shower and copper bath was simply stunning, and the hot tub and sauna added an extra bit of luxury to our stay. I can’t really rave about this place enough! We really did love our time here and cannot wait to (hopefully) come back! The only very tiny thing I would recommend is adding some books to the apartments “corridor”/“entrance” so you have somewhere to hang coats/bags up. But that is the only thing “missing” in my opinion!
Guest：This place is amazing!! Me and my boyfriend just returned today from staying here last night and oh my gosh we loved it so much! The room was so cosy and cute. The bed was so comfortable with a tv facing the bedroom, the bathroom was amazing especially the HUGE bath. We also loved the living room area with a really comfy sofa and nice kitchen area where we had breakfast. Location is also ideal as it’s so close to the train station as well as shops and food places. The only fault I had was the WiFi not working but we can survive one night without WiFi! If we needed to check something on our phone we just used our data so it wasn’t a big deal. In fact it made us have a bit of a detox from our phones which was appreciated! Overall I love this place and I will definitely be back!!! :)
Guest：Had a fab stay at The Funky Monk! Gorgeous room with super comfy bed, luxury feel to everything from the cleanliness to quirky furnishings. Would have loved some extra coffee bags and cups provided, only 2 for a booking of 3 people for 2 days. But otherwise, had a perfect stay.
