  • Guest:Mediocre atmosphere and accommodations. Poor customer service, lots of better options. We paid extra for an “ocean view” and when we showed up we had a view of a parking lot. They offered no reimbursement, not even a phone call. The resort is nothing special and hosts an overcrowded pool and beach area. Would Not recommend and will be staying away from anything with the name Marriott attached to it
  • Guest:We are owners here and come every few years as we like to enjoy various MVC properties. I can say without a doubt that the Waiohai is the most poorly maintained in the portfolio. Rather than complain about the room location I would like to address the cleanliness and maintenance of the room we stayed in. It is terrible. The handles on every cabinet has a ring of stickiness and dirt around them, most cabinet doors seem ready to fall off. The sofa is totally bagged out and desperately in need of replacement. I believe if someone left this sofa out with a “free” sign on it, no one would pick it up. Stains in the carpet and obvious wear. We are located well away from the ocean, despite having an ocean view ownership which would be nice and quiet except there is a faulty pump or something at the lagoon pond that makes a strange croaking noise day and night. I know that they update the rooms every few years however, when we last visited in 2022 they were already in need of update and have not done so in this time. I would complain directly to management but what does this solve? In my experience, not much. Every year our maintenance fees increase in our ownership, but it is very obvious these funds don’t go towards maintenance or upkeep. My advise to anyone looking to stay in the area on on this island is to book elsewhere. I know we don’t plan to return again for some time, and hope that maybe in a few years they will have sorted this property out. I must mention that the staff is friendly enough, I suppose that is something. I understand this is a popular property and tons of visitors come through but it is no excuse to keep things so poorly.
  • Guest:Like anything, this place is really a mix of 1 and 5 star features. It is an "owner's resort", not a true Marriott hotel. You're staying in someone's timeshare. Our condo was nice enough 1970's vintage, but the kitchen sink water faucet leaked below. The pools and beach etc are nice. What really is a shame here, is the staff has an attitude you seem to find often on Kauai. They seem to not care much about customer service, and that's just too bad for you. The older Asian lady at the front desk was rude. Same for the Asian lady running the over priced convenience shop. Any help you run into just seems uninterested. By the time our week ended we were glad to be going home.
  • Guest:Family wanted to visit Kauai this year and we like Marriott, so looked into options/availability. Had been told that Poipu was the best area. This hotel is right on the beach, so we booked a room for a week. It was an excellent home base for our family of five adults. Property is pretty with nice landscaping. Our 2-bedroom unit was spacious, bright and comfortable. Overlooked an empty lot adjacent to the Poipu Beach parking lot. Not a problem though with the landscaping offsetting the view. Opened the sliding doors early each morning to enjoy the sound of birds and roosters! Stopped at Costco and Walmart in Lihue for groceries and made use of the unit kitchen and community grills. Glad we did as we were exhausted at the end of each day and not interested in heading back out to dinner. Impressed with all the kitchen had stocked - everything we needed to cook, plus a blender for beach drinks! A huge plus for this property is access to the beach. Walk past the pools and onto the sand. Also enjoyed the “quiet” pool which had chairs available each time we stopped by. That said, the property feels a bit overrun. Did not wish to spend more than a day there. The main pool area was overcrowded and chaotic. Glad we purchased beach equipment at Costco as the hotel doesn’t provide anything on the beach. Kauai is beautiful with more to visit and do than can be fit into a week. This hotel was great as a space to relax each night after a busy day elsewhere on the island. Unit was comfortable and spacious for five adults. Everyone - staff as well as other guests - are friendly and the overall vibe is happy. That said, I would only stay here again if we were with a large group and/or planning to spend our time elsewhere during the day.
