  • Guest:Booked directly with the hotel for four nights in one of the lodges facing the lake . Apart of driving on the narrow winding Holbeck Lane for over half a mile to reach the hotel ground which is rather tricky! The old main house looks magnificent with carved wood panels . We were greeted by Ian, a very nice friendly gentleman who gave us a round grand tour explaining the history of the hotel which backdated to 1899.Then he escorted us to our lodge which was close by the main house and has a magnificent panoramic view of the lake and the surrounding mountain range. Our air condition lodge was a recently refurbished large suite with a four poster bed , large wardrobe , arm chairs and dressing table , tv and fridge . A balcony and beautiful bathroom with separate bath tub and a shower cubicle. The hotel provided daily room service. The hotel has two large dinning rooms and a bar lounge. The breakfast offered a large menu and selections of drinks served at the table by efficient pleasant staff. The hotel is about twenty minutes drive to Bowness on windermere lake and town which offers plenty of cafe, bars and good restaurants. It was truly enjoyable break that we look forward to return back in spring time. Thank you to Holbeck Ghyll Hotel staff for making our stay so comfortable and enjoyable.
  • Guest:A real "this could be a very nice hotel but isn't " experience. One member of staff, Caleigh who did our wedding tour was professional and welcoming. However the rest of the staff gave off the vibe that they really didn't want to be there and we were an inconvenience to them staying there. Numerous things were forgotten over breakfast and dinner (which was extortionate ly priced) and very average in taste. Our room, a lodge was very dated, black mould in the shower and marks on multiple walls. The actual front door doesn't shut properly and you have to physical lift it to close it, something that was pointed out to us on the tour, so if you know about it...fix it!! Upon checkout we received a £14 bill for dinner even though we were only £2.75 over on our dinner allowance which was part of our room rate deal. The young girl on the desk with brunette hair aggressively and sarcastically replied "oh I am sorry about that" and offered nothing in response. We complained that at no point or nowhere, it informs guests that "drinks aren't included in the dining allowance" The girl just sat there dead pan expression and repeated sarcastically "oh I AM SORRY about that". We paid the bill that we didn't owe and left never ever to return. Needless to say our wedding will NOT be at this shambles of an establishment.
  • Guest:Went for afternoon tea with a friend. The chap who greeted us was very helpful & friendly , explained everything in detail and kept checking if we needed anything. We had a table with a lovely view of the lake & the fire was on so it was really cozy.
  • Guest:We had high hopes for our break at Holbeck Ghyll but unfortunately it did fall down in many areas. Although the room was lovely and the bed was comfy there was a stain on the carpet and when you sat on the chairs you felt like you were going to fall through them. In the bathroom a lot of the grouting was missing and the shower wasn’t that powerful and would got hot and cold regardless of the setting. Also the toilet was by a window which looked out to the patio so you had to have the wooden panel window closed when using the bathroom. Bar prices are a little steep £16 for a Kir Royale and they only had bottled beers and nothing on draught which is unusual for a hotel. The meal we had at the hotel was nice but by the time it arrived at the table the mash was cold. Breakfast was lovely and plentiful although on the first morning seems a little chaotic. The second morning was very a lot smoother. The hotel has so much potential and you can see they are trying to introduce new technology but it would be so much better to do basic maintenance on the hotel. They even tried to charge us for the room which we had already paid for. The staff are trying their best but you can see they are understaffed at key times such as breakfast. I really hope they put more investment in the hotel rather than live off the past when the hotel was so much better otherwise I feel it will not compete with the hotels around them.
