  • Guest:This was our favourite hotel of a walking holiday where we stayed in a different hotel/B&B almost every night. The Dalesman managed to pull it all off: genuinely friendly and warm staff; country character with a modern twist; comfortable; mod cons; the best food of the trip. Would go out of my way to come back here!
  • Guest:I got a deal to stay for two nights in the Dalesman cottage near the pub, it's just round the corner. It's designed for self-catering (and I only wanted a B&B) so I didn't take advantage of all the cottage facilities. It has a lounge and kitchen downstairs, a single and a double bedroom plus a traditional bathroom upstairs. The cottage location was central - everything in easy reach including some fell walks I had planned. Slight downside - it's on a busy corner (see photo 1) and if you want privacy you'll need to draw down the blinds. Lots of plus points are merited, especially the friendly and helpful staff team. I stayed 2 nights in the cottage - it was OK, but it's more suited to guests who like old-fashioned, small (cosy) and quirky accommodation. I didn't mind too much - but my single bed (pic 4) was a little small, the floor in the bedroom was uneven. Traditional sash windows. And the bathroom had a bath shower - which was awkward for an old codger like me. I nearly slipped a couple of times. On the plus side the water was piping hot, and everything was clean. The lounge on the ground floor (pic 2 ) had some books, magazines and games for guests. And lots of cushions. Another definite plus - the kitchen was well equipped - though I just needed a B&B. But if I was returning to Sedbergh and wanted to do self-catering I'd definitely consider the Dalesman cottage. I enjoyed my stay, despite the small quirks and niggles. The Dalesman itself was a very pleasant pub with a decent range of real ales - picture 5 shows the cosy lounge bar and dining area. Prices for food were quite steep (check their menu) so I didn't eat there - but the menu did look good.
  • Guest:The Dalesman was the absolute highlight of our pub to pub roadtrip through Cumbria and the Dales. We had such a beautiful room and bathroom, I wish we had been able to stay for more than one night. The room was super quiet and the bed was so comfortable and luxurious with crisp white bed linen. Lovely staff and a great restaurant for both dinner and breakfast. The Dalesman was a welcome home from home after days on the road. Did I mention that we could have stayed all week? I would go out of my way to return.
  • Guest:This pub is a fabulous addition to the village and school. It was a finely tuned machine that offered the finest hospitality. The pub rooms are very comfortable, clean and well appointed. Good breakfast. We chose to stay in room 6 as it accommodates 3 guests. This exterior house needs some tlc and hot water system. We have stayed many times before and enjoyed great hospitality, however now under new management that has an aloof feel, addressed as ‘Madam’ which isn’t necessary in the village pub… No guest relations/ interactions with the new managers, though other team Members charming and working hard. The cheapest bottle of wine was £38, the dinner was ok, but not as good as before. A mixed message / offering coming across sadly.. the word on the street, is that the DM is creaking under this new route!
