Guest：We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Cliffemount Hotel. The staff were very friendly and the room was warm and comfortable. It was not advertised as having a sea view but the ensuite window and a velux window did actually face the sea. The position of the hotel on the cliff top is excellent and Runswick Bay village and beach were lovely. We also had good breakfasts (full English and Continental.) We booked through OYO which gave very good value. We definitely hope to stay there again.
Guest：OYO direct booking service was efficient. NB breakfast wasn't included. Our room, Jarvis, was on the first floor on the corner, great first impression due to two windows & great views. Also a balcony with table/chairs. Two comfortable chairs were badly marked so didn't use them. Tea/coffee making facilities were adequate. Bathroom was clean, two nice bath towels (would have liked a hand towel also) & plenty of hot water. Large bed was very firm, would have personally liked a soft mattress topper - but slept well due to the walking & sea air. Breakfast was good & staff mainly friendly & helpful. Had a meal on the second night - salmon & potatoes hot but green beans cold. My comment re the table having visible marks on was not dealt with appropriately, & was followed by a half-hearted attempt at cleaning with a wet dishcloth. I understand that some staff are new & being trained - maybe a manager needs to be around to check on standards/supervise? Generally the whole hotel needs some TLC as tired-looking decor/fittings. Would stay again because of the views & location, but would have our evening meal at the Ellerby Inn.
Guest：Perfect location overlooking the bay. Staff were friendly and helpful. The public areas, reception, dining room and had is quite basic but has high potential with some work. The dining room has wonderful view of bay and hotel garden. I had the cheapest breakfast and at just ￡5 was value for money. The gardens are wonderful and full of colour already. The bedroom I had was the cheapest but I managed to get a lovely view of the countryside and bay. The room was clean, plenty of space and comfy bed. I was really pleased with it. However, I noticed the rooms with a full review with a balcony and I have booked one because it looks perfect! I was told that these rooms are much better so look forward to checking them out! The village is so quaint and the locals so friendly and made me welcome. This is so important to me as I was there on my own. If you struggle with steps and hills, I would say it is worth driving down to the beach carpark. However, I did the walk up and down once, and will do again. Overall, I love this hotel and village x
Guest：The view from the hotel is fabulous and luckily something the owners can’t spoil, everything else about the hotel is dreadful. This could be one of England’s best country hotels, but a complete lack of love and investment has resulted in a sad shadow of what could be. The list of things that need changing is too long to mention ; safe to say actually putting a floor covering in the floor of our bathroom would be a good start. The staff are friendly but reflect the air of despair that the complete lack of vision or management by the OYO group casts over the whole hotel. We still managed to enjoy our visit as the site, village and beach are wonderful, but sadly the hotel is a pale, pealing shadow of the hotel we stayed in thirty years ago
